Prototyping session in action at a workshop in the south of France

Summary Weeknotes - Monday 1st Sept - 7th Sept

This week, I primarily focused on finalising the designs for upcoming workshops. Additionally, I dived into further app development work, where the idea validation workshop significantly challenged and refined my thinking.

Dot and Dash Consulting

Prepping away for a big workshop with a company new to AI but who want to adopt it in their company in order to grow and scale their company. It's been a great to do this as a co facilitator, working on designing this together we have been able to craft up the areas where we hold are most strengths in the delivery.

Had an interview with a conference organiser about helping run an unconference, where attendees choose the topics. They were looking for facilitators with open space method experience.

Wrapped up a strategic direction workshop with a client this week. It's been great to see them refine and implement plans for the next year. Just the report write up to go.

Upcoming events

Whoop got a ticket sale as soon as the Eventbrite when up and several people interested in this. Let's hope I manage to break even on the workshop. This is a tiny experiment to see if this is something people want. Initial survey indicated this but in reality the conversion doesn't always match. So it's back to content creation on all the platforms to get the word out there. Battling against the algorithms it always feels like your spamming but you have to realise that you don't always get to the top of people's feeds.

Visual Sketchnoting Workshop: Bring Your Notes to Life
Discover sketchnoting: a fun, visual way to take notes, spark creativity & share ideas. No drawing skills required!

App Work

Another discovery workshop with Trove Ventures - and we discovered a slight tangent that will hopefully still steer towards the app development and get some traction towards the idea validation. Thankfully I was all booked in at with an IP specialist as part of The Cooper Project in the afternoon to talk about the separate company formation as a result of the changes.

Back end wise work continues on the app architecture and connecting various different routes to bring data back and forth to make it highly tailored for individuals.

Facilitation

This week marked the much-anticipated AI Strategy in a Day workshop. After a late night of perfecting the presentation deck and double-checking the kit list, I finally had everything packed—and yes, it took a full suitcase to fit everything! Thankfully, I’d brought along a mini projector since the room we booked didn’t have a functioning TV.

The day began with a 5:30 am wake-up call, followed by a gorgeous drive through the misty Snake Pass en route to Manchester. The morning sky glowed a dusty pink and I looked up to see a pink sky with a rainbow—a stunning start to the day. The workshop was a great success, and I was delighted with how well it was received by the clients. After a long day, I got in for 8 pm exhausted but buzzing with energy, time to cocoon and recharge.

Not my poster this time—though we trained in the same technique, I love that we have different styles. (Deliberately blurred)

Sketching practice

This week has been incredibly hectic, and I only managed to carve out small pockets of time to work on some posters, a little urban sketch and a portrait. One of the projects was a draft poster for a strategy day, which ultimately wasn’t needed as the plan for the day changed. This is a practice one - I just need to refine the layout, particularly the legs and body, as I wasn’t entirely satisfied with how it turned out. I was experimenting with different lettering - none of which I was happy with.

The week concluded with a catch up with the attendees from the Graphics Made Easy Course where we shared some of our challenges and where I learnt more about using my graphics tablet with powerpoint slides to make it more interactive.

Time to rest and recover over the weekend had a lovely weekend and ate out at The Cambridge Street Collective - Kyoyu as I am a massive fan of Japanese food. What a way to celebrate all the big wins of the week. (Thanks to the hubs a great treat)

Pacts update

PACT 1 (7 days): I will dedicate 15-30 minutes daily to learn the software app 'Concepts' for digital sketchnoting. I've been using it to do some icons for the training manual. Extending this into the next week

PACT 2 (4/52) I will mind map a book a week. Stalled this week due to client work. But I did manage to beta read Jan Kecks Ice melters book.

PACT 3 (6/30 days)  I will produce a weekly sketchnote summary. A week late but it's out there!

If you enjoyed this visual sketchletter, I’d greatly appreciate your support in sharing it with your network. If you'd like to stay updated over the coming weeks, feel free to subscribe—it’s completely free!
