#12 Nottingham, Rainy Workshops and Illustration Work
Living the best life with dots and markers

Week notes — Monday 6 October – Sunday 12 October 202

Summary of the week

Travel, rain, a great coffee catch-up, and some illustration work in the mix. This week had a lot happening!

Dot and Dash

Travelled down to Nottingham on Monday to help set up for the Natural England event. The session ran across Tuesday and Wednesday, and it was a full two days. Luckily, I was working with a small team of facilitators, which was really great.

Rosemary and I went over plans and a rehearsal for the plenary and opening over a morning coffee. There is something really grounding about doing that kind of preparation face to face. Always love working with Rosemary as she works in very similar ways and we both bounce with energy levels.

Straight after the event in Nottingham I was off the train back Sheffield. I was invited to facilitate the Sheffield Digital mentoring meet-up. Literally got off the train and straight into facilitation mode. The aim for the session was to make this more engaging for all the mentors and to find out what they needed support with.

I had been part of the Sheffield Digital mentoring scheme as a mentee several years ago. So I know how impactful this can be. It was a significant part of my career change, and it was a chance for me to give back to this initiative. I now mentor two individuals who want specific help in areas in which I have had experience. Two clients in a day, it's a good thing I love what I do!

Illustration Work

This week included illustration work for Leadwell, supporting their client work. Love having illustration projects running alongside the facilitation side of things. Having some creativity work boosts my mood and pushes me to experiment more with doodles.

IAF Facilitate Sheffield Meetup

To prepare for the #FacilitateSheffield meet-up, Helen and I have been working on a workshop session with an adaptation of Liberating Structures and Appreciative Inquiry. Designing the experience for the community and having something that they can use, adapt, and get something from. It's great to bring two rich methodologies together.

App Development

Continued work on the ND app. Ran a Thrive Hour body-doubling session in the community. These continue to be a really valuable way of holding space for focused work, both for other ND entrepreneurs, including myself! This way I get to focus on app work and take part in the community.

Down time

Went along to the Treehouse Board Game Cafe to meet up with friends, which is something I have been really terrible at recently, given all the client work hitting at once. It was so good to have some great conversations, good food, and once again to be beaten at a board game.

I wonder...how many of the best aha moments happen in the in-between spaces, the coffee before the session, the debrief afterwards, or reflecting and pondering back on experiences.
