#13 Sketch Your Mind, Sheffield Women in Tech and Watercolours
Using rice to creatively work on being present

Week notes — Monday 13 October – Sunday 19 October 2025

Summary of the week

A week which puddled together strategy and creativeness. Diving into conference playbacks, and exploring watercolour painting.

Sketch Your Mind Conference

On my schedule this week was to attended the Sketch Your Mind, which unfortunately could not attend live because of client work, but I listened to the playback. It's a rich event for anyone who works visually, and I always come away with my brain buzzing with tips and ideas about how to put things into practice, play, create and experiment with visuals.

App Development

A catch-up with Trove about the ND app work. Mentoring through all the outstanding tasks, insights into some of the competitive research, and routes to market.

Dot and Dash work

Admin and invoicing got proper attention this week, filing things ready for accounting. Not glamorous but necessary, and I'm glad I have two people to sort out all the numbers. Benefits of having someone good at math and who enjoys spreadsheets. I've got a system which finally works for my ND brain. One task I delegate, having an excellent accountant for the past decade helps.

Volunteer work

IAF co-chair call with PK with early volunteering roles outlined and a plan of action for the subsequent weeks. Onto Sustain unconference prep, planning out the materials and flow of the day with Rosemary.

This week was co-designing work on the IAF England and Wales vision and priorities, which was built at our last IAF leadership team away day. It takes a lot of alignment, along with thought and care, to get right.

Community

Sheffield Women in Tech is back! I went along and it was brilliant to see that community gathering again. These kinds of spaces matter. During lockdown, I loved the sessions, and I was not fortunate to be around in Sheffield when there were happening in real life so this was a brand new experience for me.

Other facilitator community gathering - I had the "I Love Cards" session scheduled, but unfortunately missed it because the Facilitate Sheffield meetup ran over. Genuinely gutted about that one. Luckily, it's got a video replay in the Fit For Facilitation community.

Catching up with my accountability buddy this week too. Having that regular check-in keeps me honest about my health goals! Plus I get to have cool pics and videos of Canada, where he lives.

Creative Practice

Watercolour painting this week. A proper bit of creative play with no agenda attached. I forget how much I need unstructured play until I am doing it. Anyone who follows the artist's way - this is an essential part of your creative dates.

I wonder...whether making space for creative play without a purpose is actually the most purposeful thing I can do for my work and well-being. Often I say play with purpose for Lego®️ Serious Play ®️however, sometimes you need an off switch to just play, explore, discover, and nothing else.
