#14 Customer Journeys, Sketchnote Workshops and Ballet

Weeknotes — Monday 20 October – Sunday 26 October 2025

Summary of the week

One of those weeks where the diary looked full, and it really was. Workshops took over this week and — I missed ballet again.

Dot and Dash

Client work with the Sustain conference organisers, we had a check-in to make sure we are all aligned before the big event. I squeezed in some time to work on our own customer journey mapping for the consultancy work we do. This is the basis for the marketing strategy. The approach is different to a user-centred approach, but there are overlaps, just a different lens. I love that kind of work, getting into the detail of how people actually experience something, their mental models, thoughts, fears, behaviours, which is probably why I love doing User centred design work.

Ran a Visual sketchnote workshop in the afternoon at Sheffield Tech Park. Always a great energy in the sessions, people keen to put things into practice. I'm always surprised by what they resonate with or take away long after the events. Great feedback and testimonials, along with useful comments on how to make it even better.

App Development

A catch-up with Rose the Incubation manager at the Cooper project, to check on the progress of the ND app. Plus that accountability boost that I need now and again. The MVP is taking shape, just the minor task of doing some user research in the coming months when we have a few concept screens and flows to test.

Learning

Went to a talk held at the Cooper Project ongoing from founder to PM — having a product mindset with AI. Which was really great and both co founders are really embracing AI to carry out some of the more labour intensive things.

It got me thinking about how my practice is shifting as AI tools become more central to how I work.

Freedom Builders session this week with Kristina; marketing is one of my strategic goals this year. Good to have that space to think about the bigger picture of the business and the marketing strategy. Luckily the the customer journey map I've been working on is a hive of content to create.

Sketchnoting - Digital Tools

Software concepts trial runs out this week, so now I have the decision: do I go with Concepts or Procreate or Adobe Fresco? All work differently, but the Concepts app wins with its ability to export into different file structures.

Life

Missed ballet. It happens. I will be back on it next week.

I wonder...what having a product mindset means for someone whose work is about people, and whether those two things are as different as they sound. I know that is why I love service design, as it works on things more holistically: people, products, services, tools, and systems.
