#18 Bristol, Professional Photos and a Visual Workshop

Summary of the week
Train to Bristol, a birthday meal, professional photos at last, and a visual sketching workshop. This week had a lot of stationery and books (aka bliss)
Bristol
Travelled down to Bristol to visit my parents and celebrate my birthday with mum; yes, we share the same birthday!
It's always good to get back and spend some time with family. One of my goals this year is to spend more time with family and friends, and this time I combined this up with a visual workshop session I was running. Lee joined us for the birthday meal, which was a yummy takeout, followed by a long drive home. Long drives always mean that I get a solid 3 hours focus work done. It's my hyperfocus time.
While in Bristol, I popped into an IAF meet-up, which was a bonus. Met up with Ralph, whom I previously met at ISC2025 earlier in the year. I got to visit Lego HQ at PK's house for a strategy and leadership meeting. Getting to combine family time with work connections in the same trip always feels like a big win this month.
Dot and Dash
In the quest to get some marketing materials sorted (one of my strategic goals for this year), I had professional photos taken by my nephew while I was in Bristol. People could have headshots if they wanted to. Having a gifted photographer in the family is super useful for moments like these. Having a stack of images I could use to promote ongoing visual workshops will be ace! I cannot wait to see the final gallery. It was a pleasure to lead the visual sketching workshop, and I'm glad I could share some helpful tips and tricks, especially since it was primarily for facilitators. Honestly, I feel energised running sessions like these. There is something about teaching visual thinking that reminds me why I love it.

Of course every time I am in Bristol I have to go to the obligatory Scrapstore to pick up things for workshops. I was on a mission to find some art and craft things for the upcoming IAF Faciliate Sheffield meet up which Hannah runs in Dec. Grabbed a bunch of Christmas themed goodies. I bagged about 10 hotel-grade tablecloths which are ideal for workshops which involve LEGO, pens and messy things.
Workshops
A workshop planning session with Marzena this week for her first-time mums returning to work gathering. Readjusting the flow and format of the session as the time draws nearer. All part of the planning process, thankfully using SessionLab keeps this a lot easier to adjust.
App Development
Not much happened other than getting a shortlist of people who will be beta testers, so that is always a good thing! Work continues on the back end MVP.
I wonder... what we preserve when we choose to make time for people. Which relationships are shaped by intention rather than circumstance? And how do we recognise the ones that leave a lasting impression on who we become?
