Unleashing Creative Potential: From Passion to Profession
Starting a business is never easy—especially when you're also transitioning careers, or doing both at once. It can feel like stepping into uncharted territory, and for me, that was certainly the case. The turning point came during a transformative session with a dyslexic coach who helped me reframe my perspective on my strengths. For the first time, I felt genuinely empowered—empowered to build a career that aligned with my unique skills and how I thrive best.
Empowerment is a word we hear often, but in this case, it was a profound shift. That support gave me the courage to say, “It’s time. Time to follow my passion, create something meaningful, and design a life where I’m in charge."
Part of my journey led me to the world of interior design, a natural fit given my strengths in spatial reasoning, visual thinking, problem-solving, and my love of creativity. Thank you Dyslexia coach for showing me these were my strengths!
I was renovating our apartment, so it felt like the perfect opportunity to dive deeper and learn the intricacies of interior design. As part of my studies, I explored design principles through various texts, and The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman completely changed how I viewed the world around me. It opened my eyes to the power of impactful design.
Since then, I’ve kept several notebooks that I call my "brain dump books"—notebooks brimming with observations. Poorly designed objects are reimagined as I ask myself: How could this be improved? A few mini sketches and brainstorming to question why things are designed the way they are. Any delightful or beautifully products or services are dissected to uncover what makes them so enjoyable to use. These reflections continually inform my approach to design, nurture my creativity, and feed my ever-curious mind.
